Description
Chromium (III) Chloride are mostly purple monoclinic crystals, with Chromium ions in octahedral voids formed by the six men's upper chloride ions. The relative density is 1.76 g/cm3, the melting point is 83 °C and the density is 2.87. It is deliquescent, soluble in water, purple in Dilute Solution, green in concentrated solution and has a pH of 2.4 in 0.2 mol/l solution. Soluble in alcohol, slightly soluble in Acetone, almost insoluble in ether. Stable under normal temperature and pressure, avoid light, open fire and high temperature. Sublimation at 950 °C and decomposition above 1300 °C. When the inclusion of a small amount of chromium dichloride or preparation of this product reductant, it can be dissolved in water into a dark green solution. Even when cooled by dry ice, it can react violently with liquid ammonia to form [Cr(NH3)6]Cl3 and[CrCl(NH3)5]Cl2. The product of dehydration with thionyl dichloride is pink and highly hygroscopic
Application
Chromium (III) Chloride is an important raw material for the synthesis of other chromium salts, plays an important role in inorganic and organic synthesis, is the main component of synthetic feed additives, and is mainly used as mordant and catalyst in industry.
